Digital Storytelling & Canva

Overview

Learn to create presentations, take photos, shoot and edit videos for school and personal projects

How do you turn an idea into a story that captures attention? How do you create a clear presentation, an engaging post or a well-structured reel?

In the Digital Storytelling & Canva course, children and teenagers learn to express their ideas through design, photography, video and digital content. They go through the entire creative process: from choosing an idea and developing the story to producing and presenting the final material.

Canva will be the main digital tool used throughout the course. Participants will become familiar with the platform’s features and use it to create presentations, posts and carousels, as well as to edit photo and video materials. They will also create reels, and all completed projects will be brought together in a personal digital portfolio. The skills they gain will allow them to continue using Canva for school and personal projects.

The course also covers the responsible use of artificial intelligence, online safety, digital identity and the protection of personal information.

What will children learn?

The course is organised into seven practical modules:

Module I: Online safety and the responsible use of artificial intelligence

Children learn how to organise their digital space, protect their personal data and recognise risky situations online. They also discover how to use AI tools for generating ideas and conducting research while critically evaluating the information they receive.

Module II: Storytelling and idea development

Participants learn how to turn a school topic or personal idea into a story. They define the key message and create the script and storyboard for their project.

Module III: Design and presentations in Canva

Children become familiar with Canva’s features and learn how to combine colours, fonts, images and graphic elements effectively. They will create a complete presentation and practise presenting it to an audience.

Module IV: Photography and content creation

Participants learn the basics of framing, lighting, focus, sound and background selection. Using their own photographs, they will create posts and carousels in Canva that are adapted to different digital formats.

Module V: Video production and editing

Children go through every stage of creating a short video: idea, script, storyboard, filming and editing. They learn how to work with visuals, sound, text and rhythm to produce a 30–60-second reel.

Module VI: Social media and digital identity

Participants explore the specific features of posts, carousels, Stories and reels and learn how to adapt content to each format. They will create a demonstration profile and a simple content plan while considering privacy and online reputation.

Module VII: First CV and digital portfolio

Children select and organise the work completed throughout the course into a personal digital portfolio. They will also create their first CV, prepare a brief personal introduction and present their projects during Demo Day.

How is the course delivered?

Lessons combine brief explanations with demonstrations, exercises and hands-on activities. Children receive guidance from the mentor, test the tools and gradually develop their own projects.

Activities are adapted to each participant’s pace, while the projects completed during each lesson connect with one another and become part of the final portfolio.

Artificial intelligence is used for brainstorming, structuring ideas and improving materials. The child remains the author of the project, selects the most suitable ideas and verifies the results.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for children and teenagers aged 11 and over who:

  • are interested in Canva, photography, video or social media;
  • want to create clearer and more engaging presentations and school projects;
  • have ideas but do not know how to organise and present them;
  • want to learn how to use digital tools and AI responsibly;
