How to recognise risks and protect yourself in the digital world
Can you recognise a fake message? Would you know if someone was trying to steal your account? Could you tell a real video from a deepfake?
Artificial intelligence offers us new tools and opportunities, but it can also make online scams much more convincing. Fake messages, images, voices and videos are becoming increasingly difficult to identify, while a single click can put an account or personal data at risk.
At the eighth edition of IT Connect, you will learn how to recognise suspicious situations and what practical steps you can take to stay safer online.

About the event
“Online safety in the age of AI” is an interactive session for young people who use social media, communication apps, online platforms and AI-powered tools every day.
Using accessible language and examples drawn from young people’s digital lives, we will discuss phishing, compromised accounts, personal data theft, deepfakes, identity impersonation and other forms of online manipulation.
The focus will be on practical examples and actions you can take immediately to protect your accounts, devices and personal information.
What will you learn?
During the event, you will learn:
- how to recognise a suspicious message, link, profile or request;
- what modern scams and phishing attempts look like;
- what deepfakes are and how artificial intelligence can be used to manipulate content;
- how to check whether the person contacting you really is who they claim to be;
- how to create stronger passwords and use a password manager;
- why two-factor authentication is important;
- what to do if you suspect that one of your accounts has been compromised;
- how to better protect your personal data.
Cyber Challenge: what would you do?
Together with the other participants, you will analyse several scenarios inspired by situations encountered online:
- you receive a suspicious message from a friend;
- someone sends you a link to claim a “prize”;
- someone you know urgently asks you for money;
- you discover a fake account;
- you receive a password recovery notification;
- you see an image or video that may have been generated using AI.
For each scenario, you will try to answer three questions:
What is suspicious? What is the risk? What should I do?
The answers and warning signs will be analysed together with the invited specialist.

Participants will be able to ask questions and speak directly with the guest speaker about situations they encounter online.
Who is it for?
The event is intended for young people aged 16 to 20 from Cahul and the southern region:
- high school students;
- college pupils and students;
- university students;
- young people interested in artificial intelligence, online safety and technology;
- beneficiaries of youth centres and youth organisations.
No advanced technical knowledge is required. The session is relevant to any young person who uses the internet, social media and digital tools.
