Algorithmic Programming Marathon in C/C++: The Ecosystem Shaping Moldova’s Future IT Specialists

Over the past five years, the Algorithmic Programming Marathon in C/C++, organized by “Tekwill in Every School” as part of the national “Tekwill Junior Ambassadors” competition, has evolved into a dynamic ecosystem of learning and competition built around a shared passion for programming. More than 600 students have taken part over time, testing not only their coding skills, but also their logical thinking, ability to solve complex problems, and competitive spirit — all essential competencies for Moldova’s future IT specialists.

This year, the 5th edition brings together 80 students and 36 teachers, continuing the tradition of identifying and supporting the country’s digital talent. The Marathon presents participants with a demanding challenge: over the course of 3 hours, each student must solve 4 programming problems, thereby assessing their logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and competitive mindset.

“Over these five years, we have built a sustainable ecosystem that connects talented youth, teachers, and mentors, providing them with resources, challenges, and real opportunities for growth. The competition is not just a platform for testing programming skills, but a strategic tool for preparing the next generation of IT specialists, contributing to the development of the country’s overall digital capacity,” said Ana Chirița, Strategic Projects Director at ATIC.

Organized in partnership with the Technical University of Moldova, the competition benefits from the expertise of a leading institution in IT education, supporting the early development of future digital professionals and strengthening the national technology ecosystem.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s university learners, and the Technical University of Moldova is committed to supporting them from their high school years. The Tekwill Junior Ambassadors Marathon offers participants the opportunity to develop practical skills in programming and algorithms, preparing them for technological challenges and future careers in IT,” stated Dumitru Ciorbă, Dean of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics at TUM.

The Marathon is held with the support of leading companies from the IT and financial sectors, which strategically contribute to the development of students’ digital skills and to building a strong ecosystem for the future leaders of Moldova’s tech industry.

“Supporting talented youth is a priority for maib. Through our involvement in the Marathon, we provide students with the opportunity to develop practical skills, explore their potential in the digital field, and strengthen their creative and innovative thinking, contributing to the formation of the country’s future IT professionals,” said Doina Fetco, Marketing Director at MAIB.

“We are pleased to support young people passionate about technology and to provide them with the resources and context needed to test and develop their digital skills. By investing in students’ IT education, we contribute to building a generation prepared to face the challenges of the digital future,” stated Cristina Mindrescu, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Orange Moldova.

The Algorithmic Programming Marathon in C/C++ also benefits from the support of regional partners, with the INOTEK Foundation playing a key role in engaging students from southern Moldova by facilitating access to resources, mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities.

“For us, supporting young people in the southern regions of the country in developing digital skills is a priority. Through our involvement in the Tekwill Junior Ambassadors Marathon, we provide students with the opportunity to learn by doing, to test their creativity and problem-solving abilities, and to integrate into a national educational ecosystem that prepares Moldova’s future IT specialists,” said Nicolae Mocanu, Administrator of the INOTEK Foundation.

Over the past five years, the Algorithmic Programming Marathon in C/C++ has established itself as a pillar of Moldova’s digital education ecosystem, offering students real opportunities to develop programming and algorithmic skills. Through collaboration with universities, companies, and public institutions, the competition fosters digital excellence and contributes to shaping a generation of IT professionals ready to face the technological challenges of the 21st century.

The Marathon thus remains a strategic instrument for the continuous development of digital talent and for strengthening the community of young innovators across the country.

The “Tekwill Junior Ambassadors” competition is organized by ATIC, Tekwill, and “Tekwill in Every School” in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, the Embassy of Sweden, Inotek, and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), with the support of partners maib, the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova, Orange Moldova, UNFPA Moldova, the e-Governance Agency, and the National Center for Sustainable Energy.
